We needed to take our dog, and ourselves, to a mountaintop. Wooster is not doing well, and I don't have to say much more to those of you who have had to face the prospect of saying goodbye to a beloved family member who happens to be a dog or cat. Wooster loves the back-of-the-station-wagon bed we've created for her, and as we drove together to the top of Cadillac Mountain yesterday, she was a happy dog.
The views were this beautiful in every direction.
As is often the case, winds were blasting the Cadillac summit.
Wooster in her dogmobile.
We later took her for a short walk along the granite coastline near Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park.
The Big Bug We had an unexpected visitor on The Naturalist's Notebook deck on Sunday. We think it's a giant water bug (a.k.a., a toe biter), though I'm not sure why it would have left a nearby brook to check in on us.
When I first saw it from the corner of my eye, it looked so large that I thought it was a mouse.
Answer to the Last Puzzler Zebras have white stripes on black fur, not the other way around.
Today's Puzzler A field biologist is counting animals on a small island. The island has only lizards and birds. The biologist, who has a kooky streak, decides to count just heads and legs. She finds that the lizards and birds on the island have a total of 30 heads and 70 legs. How many birds are there and how many lizards are there?
